Lorna Doucet, Susan Nowak, Bob Hayhurst,
Sandi Cleaver, and Lyle Hoffman are the members of

"The First Knives Club"

All members were students of Loretta Joseph and took what they learned from her teachings to participate in this year's "Driftwood Carving Competition".

Lorna's and Sandi's
What little info we could gather from this happy group was:

Susan says she emigrated from the rat race of London,England " to swim with the orcas!"
Bob creates his own carving tools, Sandi enjoys painting. Lorna claims to be a wanna be carver
and Lyle said his wife is just happy to get him out of the house.
Bob's salmon
What is amazing is that these carvings are all made from driftwood found along the shore...
Lyle created the whale in the group shot with a piece of driftwood that he had picked up earlier
and had in storage in his workshop, his classes with Loretta encouraged him to participate in this competition and the end result along with the rest of the "First Knives Club" pieces
helped them capture first place in the Driftwood Group Division.

These carvings can be viewed currently at page Eleven Books on Shoppers Row in Campbell River.
