Welcome to the first annual

“Transformations on The Shore”

Here we have some pics from last month's first annual Driftwood Carving Contest held on Canada Day long weekend. The catalyst for this event was Max Chickite's octopus carving, Octy done in 1996 and the response when it was vandalized latter that year. The outpouring of support for the carving and the anger brought out by the theft had brought Campbell River together for a common cause.

Octy 1996

This is the legacy, to cover our waterfront with carvings done by novices as well as professionals for all to see.

There where two main areas with games, balloons, as well as food for the hungry.

Carvers were spread out along the coastline and challenged the imaginations of on-lookers as they tried to figure out what the artists were transforming their piece of driftwood into.

The Anchor was the work of junior competitor
Tyler Abbott
who won in his division.

Below Tom woods carves the life of a “Little Fisherman” into this pice of driftwood.
