Coming all the way from Denmark was Nicolaj Lutken,
who perplexed and delighted onlookers with
"The Dream," which featured a free-rolling
egg-shaped piece of wood surrounded by knobs and eyes and a chiseled
scale-like texture
impossible to describe, but not to appreciate.
The other carvers were so impressed with Nic's relentless energy,
improvised tools and unbounded vision, that they rewarded him
with the Carver's Choice award, also known as the Don Poisson
Trophy, which was named for Don Poisson, the tireless grounds
keeper pictured here with Nic |
